Nobel laureate, Prof. Amartya Sen has commented that as an Indian citizen, he does not want Modi as his PM.
Amartya Sen is an economist, analyzing situations, predicting scenarios and prescribing best options for solutions. He has disapproved Modi of being unsuitable for the PM’s post; for the latter’s handling of Gujarat riots. The model of development of Gujarat has also come under his criticism.
I also am an Indian citizen, though a commoner on the street with no titles to flaunt, but have an equally weighed vote like Mr. Sen, to choose people’s representatives to the parliament and legislatures and would wish to use it correctly and hence this seeking of clarification.
Mr.Sen did not disapprove the beneficiaries of the Bofor scam as an Indian citizen, nor did he comment on the long list of exposed corrupt leaders, who were forced to quit the UPA government, like Kalmadi, Raja, Dayanidhi Maran, Bansal, to name a few, and the hiding many who have not been brought to the books yet and lingering under a policy paralytic PM.
It is only a matter of days that Mulayam Singh Yadav is likely to be named the PM candidate by the third front, as I learn like everyone else from the newspapers. Mr.Sen has not uttered a word of on CBI’s tame clean chit on Mulayam Singh Yadav on disproportionate case and the DA case. My pointed question to Mr. Sen: Does Mulayam qualify to lead the nation?
The other Dalit leader Mayawati has chosen to proclaim herself as a probable candidate for the PM’s post. Can Mr. Sen stomach this choice and why has he remained silent on her?
Rahul Gandhi, the other PM candidate, being touted by rabble-rousers like Digvijay Singh has been a consistent non-performer, despite wielding great influence over the bureaucracy and the polity. Will Mr. Sen comment on Rahul as the probable PM of our country for the benefit of laymen like me?
It is easy to be dismissive about any person and Mr. Sen has done it with élan, in case of Mr. Modi. We have enough people in politics claiming to the extent that the Gujarat riots gave birth to Indian Mujahideen! Presuming that Modi wins the votes and becomes the PM, does Mr. Sen, think that Modi can cause genocide of the minorities? Does Mr. Sen think the minorities are a deprived lot in Gujarat alone? Are there not communal clashes in India on regularity? What about the anti-Sikh riots of Delhi in 1984? What about the genocide of the minorities in Assam?
As Mr. Sen has chosen to reveal his mind on one candidate, despite the fact that Mr. Modi has not yet been named by the BJP as its PM candidate, I wish he comes out on his ideas with the other probable as well.
Crafty Hindu politicians wearing keffiyeh or hijabs, faking Iftars and pretentious Namaaz may not make much headway in finding solutions regarding minorities. There must be sincere and time bound efforts to integrate the minorities by giving them a feeling of security, quality education, health-care and opening up of job opportunities, which alone can cement the understanding between communities.
Let vox populi decide as to who should be the PM. Mr. Sen and I shall have our say too! Give us, Mr. Sen, some lessons on truly inclusive growth, where no community or castes are shunned for their religious beliefs, as should be in a true democracy and let our children breathe peace!
