The sordid drama of hiding and seek game of the former disgraced finance minister, evading a lookout notice by the enforcement agencies for 27 hours before being nabbed. He was hiding in his home, refusing to give himself in when a few sleuths had to scale his wall and arrest him.
Meanwhile his son, Karthi argued that the matter was from 2008 and the FIR was filed only in 2017, and this is a case of ‘voyeurism’ by the NDA government and a witch-hunt against the former finance minister. He did not though recall how his dad bullied the court repeatedly obtaining bails on the flimsiest grounds, which supposedly included ‘to play tennis overseas.’ His father has obtained bail 20 times.
Chidambaram had donned many hats, as Commerce Minister, as Finance Minister and as Home Minister and an M.P. who Sivaganga returned many times. Presuming that he is pure as the Ganga water at Gangotri, he should have surrendered gracefully to the authorities, rather than holed up like a rat, which indeed he had become.
The role of a few senior advocates has been despicable, who are ‘dalals,’ fixing the benches, hearing and getting bails like they could do at ease in this case. The court has termed Chidambaram, the ‘Kingpin’ of the criminal network. Chidambaram is also under investigation for owning undeclared properties abroad, being named in the infamous Panama papers, money laundering and what not. His son Karthi was supposedly handling the crime empire on behalf of his dad, to get any favour done in Delhi.
If Chidambaram cared a damn for the Congress party he represented, either while indulging these acts of criminality or in the coverup. It is only incidental that the bribery of US$ 1 Million over the INX deal was revealed by Indrani Mukherjee, who herself is a criminal, convicted of a gruesome murder of her daughter. Notwithstanding the dubious source, Indrani seems to have foolproof evidence, which of course is only one of the several charges against the wily politician, advocate and Congress leader.
I’m happy at all the happening, as the Congress party is getting cleaned off the obnoxious filth, which had become a permanent backpack. Congress, which fought eviction of the British and won freedom for the nation, had become the citadel of all vicious crooks of the country.
I have the least respect for these notorious lawyers, with many of whom I had enough opportunity to rub shoulders during my career. They finished Chidambaram by advising him to hide and not surrender like any law-abiding citizen would have done. The Congress party leadership, by crying hoarse of a vindictive hunt are still unable to gauge the public mood. I, a Congress sympathizer for most of my life would love to see that the party dissolved, and these criminals speedily prosecuted.
By the way, can the public overrun the party for a takeover?
Karma!
