The prestigious space programme, landing a rover in controlled conditions 363000 Kms away from our planet. Our premier space agency Indian Space Research Organisation specially chose the unexplored south pole of the moon, believed to have a vast frozen mass of water, besides valuable geology. The touch down could be in less than 5 hours from now. The world scientific community is glued to their chairs, monitoring the manoeuvres of the rover craft, and the data it would be sending to our scientists.
I cannot hide my dismay over avoidable pathetic comments, downplaying the lunar mission by India by a few politicians, who are primarily narcissists. They are commenting that the success of the mission is a ploy to divert the attention of the masses over the adverse economic conditions in the country. The apprehension could also be that the success of the moon project could further propel the image of the Prime Minister or his ruling party.
Rather than feeling proud of what has already been achieved in the space technology, these leaders may not even know that such space programme involving rocket science, also helps us in our missile programme, crucial in our country’s defence. The satellites we have launched have mitigated much human and property losses by critical forecasting of cyclones and storms. It helps in farming, rain forecast and more importantly keeping an eye over our nosy neighbours on the borders and beyond.
Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister on this day is merely incidental, and a project as crucial as Chandrayan, initiated by thousands of scientists of our country should not be criticized or slighted and betrays their extreme frustration. Needless needling will only expose the inadequacy of knowledge of these people and making them unworthy of representing the educated and the Intelligentsia.
“It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt of it.”
My advanced best wishes to the Scientists who have so far done a commendable job and have boosted India’s image in the eye of the world countries.
