The split verdict of Delhi has given rise to headache for both the parties contested and the public. AAP is the one seriously disadvantaged if they take the support of Congress, whom they fought tooth and nail, and BJP, which would not support it under the present circumstances.
Election manifesto of most parties included sops, which are impossible to implement from the level of an Assembly of a Union territory. For example,if implemented, it might render generation and distribution of electricity unviable leading to severe power outages in Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal and his team seem to be a little too arrogant of their debut tally, wasting time in rhetoric like taking on Rahul and BJP. AAP were good as activists, riding on the fasting Anna wave, but governance is a different job altogether, and given the split verdict it may be prudent to perform to prove a corruption free governance, which may give them a distinct advantage in the coming Lok Sabha elections. If they shun forming the ministry, they would have lost a great opportunity despite the dependence on one or other major party for their support. The silver lining is though the willy-nilly satraps of the Congress would love to finish the fledgling party by pulling the carpet from down under, they will desist from adventurous games, given their low performance and the possible backlash in the coming LS polls.
By splitting with Anna, and taking a political route to prove their mettle, Kejriwal and team has established themselves as capable of shrewd maneuvering, a pre-requisite for politics in India. Rampant corruption has grown over the years from money powered elections. In a country like ours, politics and party affiliation for cadres means security and livelihood and monetary gains. I do not support it, but ground realities have to be understood. Arvind Kejriwal and the Bhushans in the party are erudite urbanites, with little touch with the masses and the rural folk.
One interesting fallout of the general anti-corruption stand of the public, elected ones chose to remain humans and not horses, thus resulting in huge losses for a possible few, who could have jumped sides!
The nation expects AAP to judiciously perform for the next six months to firm up the faith of the people, not of Delhi alone, but of the nation as a whole. Sit Arvind, on the saddle and pull the reins to prove the mettle of you and your party. We are waiting!
