Three years in office is no small time, only if the government is focussed on course correction based on electoral promises, and professional. Sadly, it has not been all so.
I ignore (with contempt the mention of Rs.15 lacs in each citizen’s account) and the rabble-rousing ‘Damaad’ vitriols, though it helped in dethroning the UPA government tainted by record number of scams in post independent India. I for one believe that demonetisation is a direct result of the government’s inability to bring back from abroad the stashed trillions. The expectation of a few billions to garner went bust, throwing the economy into disarray and the finance ministry to invent newer benefits of the demonetisation move.
To take refuge with a lame excuse of ‘it’s merely three years into our rule and the problems have been inherited over 70 years,’ is not cutting ice. If people related to past government have indeed been corrupt encore, they should have all been in jail, or at least charge sheeted. Has anything such happened? The digression into bovines, the discomfort of a section of minorities and dissenting intelligentsia could all have been handled better than taking head on to prove one’s might. The list of writers and poets killed reveals the inability of the government to rein in militant elements. The common man’s grievance of the day is, he is poorer with lesser job opportunities.
I must give credit to the NDA government, which has so far, no corruption allegations against it, which is a welcome change and what might have saved Billions of dollars for the country, especially in defence procurements and infrastructure investments. The scenario, though is not the same down under, as the greasing has re-started with renewed vigour and newer schemes to stash have emerged.
I guess the strong stance of NDA has come under stress and challenge with BJP”s party president Amit Shah exonerating his son, Jay Shah, in a recent case of undue profiteering. The quick and unprecedented appearance of an Union Minister, Piyush Goyal on the media to further rubbish the allegations on Jay has breached the line of the government’s responsibilities and lack of proper sense.
The bypoll results from Gurdaspur has delivered a landslide to Congress, giving them a shot in the arm on the eve of Rahul’s elevation as the president of Indian National Congress and the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly elections. Similarly, the UDF win has dealt a blow to RSS/BJP, who were hoping to wrest the seat. The PM, as usual has become the prime campaigner in Gujarat, and a win or loss would pave way for the country in 2019.
In any case, mere rhetoric wouldn’t do.
